Midterms Week

Yes, this is the same blog as before.

Lol, before you all wonder who took over my blog and revamped the look of it, no worries all, it is still me.  Sorry it has been a bit since I have posted but wow did PA school get real, espcially these last few weeks.  We are officially full swing and in the middle of midterms, ughh!
I have a huge pharm exam on Monday which I am getting more and more nervous about along with a clin med exam.  Then a practicle in patient assessment on Wednesday and an anatomy practicle on Thursday.  So this weekend consists of studying my behind off and trying to be prepared...this picture about sums it up

But I have to say, behind all of my complaining, I am loving my program.  The faculty is very dedicated to making sure we do well and my classmates are great.  We always e-mail each other different study guides and mneumonics that have helped us and it is a great cooperative learning environment.  I don't know if I could make it in a "competative program" where everyone is just trying to be the best, it is so much nicer this way.
But enough with that, I am off to go memorize more drugs so keep the questions coming and I will update at the end of this week when midterms are over and it is break!
xoxo

  1. Hi,

I'm sure you are very busy right now studying for your upcoming exams but I was wondering if you could shed some light on the differences between the programs at Worcester and Boston. Why did you choose Worcester over Boston? I declined my acceptance at MCPHS Boston and decided to go to Arcadia University but recently received an interview invitation from MCPHS Worcester and am debating whether to go.
Could you tell me a little bit about life at Worcester? How are your rotations and do students usually get the ones they want? I saw that there is an international elective option and was wondering if you knew anything about that? Do students go to class everyday? I hear lectures are streamed electronically? I'm not sure whether I phrased that correctly but I was just wondering if not having a physical lecturer has any disadvantages. Do you get to attend the national PA conference? Lastly, what kind of support system is provided by the faculty and administration?

Thank you for taking the time to answer all of my questions!

    1. Hi Cam,
My apologies for not responding to this comment right away! The Boston and Worcester programs are 2 very seperate and different programs. The Boston program starts in September and is just under 3 yers long, Worcester starts in January and is 2 years long. I decided to decline my acceptance to Boston and switch to go to Worcester just because it made more sense to me at the time and I have never regretted my decision. I really just wanted to start school asap so I could get a move on with what I really wanted to do with my life. I loved that Worcester was starting very soon so that I could stop dragging it out just waiting to go to PA school when I knew I was ready to start now! I also liked that it was a 2 year program and not a 3 year program.
In Worcester, you are in class 5 days a week. As for rotations, I only know what i have been told form faculty and students so dar but they are all spread out within the New England area and you do get to choose at least the counties you will be in for the rotations (so you can stay with people you know hopefully). The internation rotations are in Belize and Bolivia and they are a normal 5 week rotation and a great experience that I hope to do next year! Some lectures are provided by distance education with the Manchester, NH campus. About 50% are taught from there and 50% from Worcester. No matter what class, there is always faculty right in the Worcester building to ask questions, and the faculty is wonderful! Very supportive and hands on. If you want to talk to a professor from Manchester, they do come to Worcester to teach usually once a week as well or you can email them. I am the VP of my class SAAAPA chapter and you do have the chance to go to the AAPA conference each year! I do not plan on going this year just do to the money but will most definitely be there next year (when it is in DC). The faculty are just amazing in all honesty. They really want you rot succeed and are always there to answer any questions or address any concerns. Once a month, our program director comes in to class and we have a 1 hour discussion about how the year is going so far and what we would like to see happen in the program/school. They really listen to what students have to say.
So in the end, any PA school is great to be accepted into/get an interview at, so congrats!!! But I would definitely at least go to the interview at MCPHS Worcester. It is a great school and I have never regreted my desicion of coming here :)
Hope this helps! Please feel free to ask anything else!

  4. Hi! I just stumbled upon this blog when I was doing research between applying to the different programs/campuses at MCPHS! I know you might be busy traveling and working (I read your most recent blogs!) but would you be able to tell me the difference between those programs and your experience? I was reading reviews and many people who are part of the 6 year/accelerated pharm D program did not enjoy the program/school. Was your experience/PA experience different/better? Are the PA programs accelerated bs-masters or traditional grad programs? (I am applying as a non-traditional, graduated a few years ago from undergrad!) Thank you so much for your time!
